The Salt in My Life

“You are the salt of the earth.  But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?  It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”    Matthew 5:13

This scripture came to mind when I discovered Heath dumping out a brand new container of salt all over my kitchen.  He was having a blast, cute little stinker!

Did I mention, I had *just* cleaned up my kitchen!  My initial reaction was to get really crabby and aggravated.

begging God for patience.

Thankfully, the Holy Spirit intervened.  I noticed how much FUN Heath was having spreading the salt everywhere!  He was practically wallowing in it, giggling with joy as he threw handfuls in the air!

What did Jesus mean when he told His apostles to be the salt of the earth?  Salt was used to purify and preserve food, making it taste better.  The apostles were being told to spread Jesus’ saving, merciful love to the world in order to purify, preserve, and season our lives!

Heath’s salty mess certainly spiced up my morning!  It was a great reminder for me to stay salty like the apostles.  I can’t let my salt lose its taste, I have to keep spicing up the world with Jesus’ merciful, saving, preserving love.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for letting Heath remind me to throw my salt into the air with gusto!
